Second, the app has a “check in” feature that allows the user to “check in” and thereby post to his or her contacts their last known whereabouts. This feature does not violate user privacy, since FoneTrac does not monitor a user’s whereabouts continuously and has commonly been used by corporations to secure “check in” compliance from employees during travel abroad. Third, the app has “push alerts” wherein GlobalSecur can send out an alert on a travel security issue such as a severe weather forecast, a potential terrorist problem, or even the threat of political instability.
